A Weekend Away To Sew

There's nothing quite like a couple of days away from home with friends and sewing machines to revive your spirits!  I just spent an annual (well, we try to make it at least bi-annual, but this year we only made it once) get-away with wonderful friends Kate and Elaine on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.  It was productive, relaxing and restorative -- and the food was superb, as usual!

We always have more projects along than we can possibly work on or complete, but hope always springs eternal when quilters are packing to go away.  Setting up sewing machines, finding thread and rulers doesn't take us much time and we are quickly off and running.  Elaine showed us pieces she has been working on this year in a design group from her guild teaching new techniques and design elements including use of color, scale and much more.  Kate is always the first to start sewing - this time she began with a Christmas stocking for our project for Montevue Home.  I went to take a nap.

By the time I was back in the sewing room, the stocking was completed and Elaine was working on a beautiful table cloth for her daughter.
Later in the weekend,  Kate and I laid out the easy A Little Something Jacket in her lovely blue batik so we could match the design on the jacket fronts and sleeves.  There were more projects: binding to finish on holiday place mats, a pieced pillow cover, a small machine applique wall hanging to begin from the new Art To Heart book, Count On It (very cute!)

Of course, we had time to talk and catch up since our last visit; to cook together (after the departure of Jack, world's greatest personal chef, if we do say so ourselves) and to enjoy the sunsets.  Each visit is a treat beyond price and a treasured gift!
